Westdale Secondary School was opened in 1931, with a beautiful classically styled auditorium in the center of the school.
Unfortunately, a series of major renovations buried the original auditorium beneath a shell of wire and plaster. A rounded ceiling with four coves was installed, suspended through holes punched in the previous one. While the new ceiling is more acoustically sensible, it lacks the grandeur of the 1930′s construction.
Thankfully there is a way in. Through much scrambling and crawling (and a short climb down a rope) I was able to enter a sealed off stairwell, and eventually gain access to the crawlspace between the new ceiling and the old.
